We received a report of orcas close to Nanaimo, and sure enough, we headed out and there they were! We watched as whales from two pods travelled north together toward Departure bay, and then headed into the Strait of Georgia toward a seal haulout, perhaps for a meal?

In between then we’ve seen them several times in the Gulf Islands using similar foraging strategies. Mom and her three sons must really like the taste of Salish Sea seals and sea lions!

We were fortunate enough to find orcas in the morning, and during the humpback research portion we found "Anvil" the humpback whale! The Keta team was able to collect data and ID photographs of "Anvil" as well as discuss humpback conservation and biology with our guests.
