June 28th 10:30 AM - Exploring the Salish Sea

We spent our morning searching for whales through the beautiful Salish Sea. First, our vessel headed south from Naniamo passing through Dodd Narrows as the tides raced through the narrow passageway. We entered Stuart Channel, the first channel within the Southern Gulf Islands when approaching from the north.

We kept our eyes peeled for any sign of whales as we continues south into Trincomali Channel, then through Porlier pass, and we turned north heading up the Valdes Island shoreline. We travelled to the flat top islands where there were a bunch of harbour seals hanging out on the rocks.

After leaving the seals behind we travelled north to the Nanoose Bay area continuing our search for the whales and looped back around to Nanaimo.

Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to find the whales today, but we still got to explore the Salish Sea and learn about the rest of the ecosystem! We hope that all our guests still enjoyed the ride and we will see them again using the free vouchers they received due to not seeing the whales this time!

All the best photos of the wildlife today were taken by Marine Naturalist Janine Van Der Linden and can be found below.
