May 19th was a very exciting day on the water! We headed south to find the T65B’s, T75B’s, T75C’s and T124C and were treated to lots of surface activity from the animals. We found a ton of other wildlife along the way as well.
Read MoreOur captain James found whales for us just off Gabriola island at Thrasher rock! We departed from our Nanaimo dock and headed south to find the T86A family, including the 31 year old matriarch “Eider”, and her two offspring 18 year old “Nahanni” and 8 year old “Tyndall”.
After watching the T86A group explore the underwater reefs, we made our way to Entrance island and were lucky enough to witness hundreds of the largest sea lion on earth, the Stellers!

Since orcas don’t follow a daily schedule, we never know what kinds of behaviours we are going to witness out there. We were thrilled to watch this family show us some variety including tail slaps, syphops (when a whale surfaces vertically), and even some breaches!

Both Cascadia and Keta left the dock at noon and headed south towards some reports of humpback whales, our first humpback sighting of 2019! We were also lucky enough to find orcas as well! Our first double whale species day of the season!

Read MoreToday was a beautifully calm day on the waters off of Nanaimo. We started the day off with reports of Killer Whales at Snake Island, just at the entrance to the Strait of Georgia off of Nanaimo. One of our open vessels, Cascadia, left the dock to search around the island in hopes of finding the orcas, and not too long after we heard they had travelled south towards Ladysmith!
